I fulfilled the purpose of my content analysis, which was to examine the instagram explore page of a new user. What I found was really interesting:

1.) Overall the comments were incredible positive or just neutral. Only 4 posts were negative.

2.) they showed no content from major creators, which I considered 500k followers and above.

​

3.) Only one content category I was shown lined up with the type of content my survey participants view (beauty). Although, meme content may just be more popular outside of my sample

4.) If the post included a person, that person fit the beauty standards created by social media.

​

5.) Interestingly enough, all of the people shown on my explore page were either women or female presenting people. This was something I had not thought of putting in my codebook, but it stood out to me.

 

6.) I did not include this in my codebook either, but most of the people shown to me were people of color. I'm not educated enough on the topic to discuss POC representation online, but it was something that stood out to me in a good way.

7.) A lot of self-promo was included in captions, I considered this in my codebook as an ad.

8.) Most of the posts either stood between 1,000-9,999 or 10,000-99,999 likes

I do wonder if my explore page catered to what types of content that people in my age rage then to view. One of the first things I had to do while making my account was input my age, there was no way to skip it. Also, I found it interesting that the explore page showed no content from major creators, but the suggested followers list was all verified creators or celebrities.
